Gulliver`s Travels by Jonathan Swift

First published in 1726, this is a classic satire on the human political and social situation, and is by no means simply a childrens` book about little people in Lilliput, as is often assumed. After his adventures on Lilliput island, the hero Gulliver continues his travels and has many other trials & tribulations, accidentally ending up in seven other weird and wonderful civilisations.

Swift combines very acute political and social comment with advanced science-fiction type descriptions of the different countries he visits, with plenty of ironic humour thrown in, some of it hilarious, and his scenarios, analysis and comments are as entertaining and relevant today as they were nearly 300 years ago.
